School District Frameworks

For the last year I have been working with teachers across the district to develop a common framework for reading comprehension instruction across the district. This was the first chance I have been given to work with a professional learning community outside of my building. At first I was very shy. I wasn't sure what to expect and though I can be very opinionated, I did not want to make people mad when voicing my opinion. I started off very soft-spoken and observing. Fast I realized I needed to be a part of this conversation or we would not be going anywhere.

The benefits of this professional learning community is not only going to improve student learning and continuity across the district, but it is giving us common assessments, benchmarks, and checklists to refer to. My hopes with these frameworks is to encourage school buildings to create their own professional learning communities to enhance the work we have been doing at a district level to not only benefit our students, but to further their own thinking,
